Graphic Design
From 2D to 3D I have it all covered.
Throughout my life, I dabbled in drawing, but in time I found my niche in 3D modeling and digital art.
I started to work in 3D modeling back in the mid-90s and over the next several years produced many static 3D rendered scenes. My goal was to tell stories with my rendering and ultimately apply that to my first children’s book Mistletoe’s Night.
However, the agonizingly slow rendering process of that era pushed me away from that art form, and some years later, I received a Wacom drawing tablet from which I rediscovered 2D art once again. That tablet was ultimately replaced by my first iPad and Procreate, which is now my primary design platform of choice.
Textbook Illustrations
Besides illustrating my own children’s books, I also designed and drew hundreds of illustrations for two TAA Excellence award-winning college-level engineering textbooks that went on to have sold over 60,000 copies. The vast majority of the illustrations I made were created as vector art using Inkscape. Many of the drawings were simple line diagrams, while a number of them were complex images that I put a lot of work into creating.
3D Printing
I started dabbling in 3D printing back before 3D printing was the mainstream thing that it is today. In 2004, I created the first 3D model of the Nott Memorial, which is the centerpiece of Union College and a National Historic Landmark. That model was printed and put on display throughout the campus. Since then, I created several small objects for personal use that I’ve subsequently contributed to Thingiverse. I think the whole 3D printing medium is cool and I have intentions to create more stuff when my other projects finally come to fruition and I have more free time to dabble in that. 3D printing is something I would have been consumed with back in the BattleTech miniatures days of my youth.
