WordPress Specific Work
I developed a comprehensive theme, m20T1, from scratch for use with WordPress. My goal for this theme was to use the full power of WordPress, include extensive administrative features, and intelligently automate as much as possible. The intent is to eliminate the need to install certain frontfacing plugins and to make this a singular environment.
Standout Theme Features
Some of the more interesting features of this theme:
- Customizable additional post types (hardcoded). By default, it’s set to Portfolio.
- An additional settings page that allows the admin to add additional metadata to the page header and footer. Additionally, the settings page allows for customizing the 404 page, search page and contact modal.
- Expanding the User profiles and the adjoining public page to include additional common social media links and more.
- Elaborating on the attachment/image pages with additional metadata, such as file size and dimensions.
- SVG support for uploading to the Media Library and usage in posts and pages.
- JavaScript content modals (eg. search and contact), including one specifically as a lightbox for images.
- A custom ‘Advanced Options‘ meta box in the editor for adjusting schema.org microdata and setting page-specific CSS.
- More details about this theme can be found in this blog post.
Through this process, I learned how plugins work and will ultimately move some of the features into a companion plugin for this theme. The site you are looking at now is running this theme and the code for m20T1 is available on GitHub.
